Crispy golden fried potatoes are one such thing. The iconic Spanish Patatas Bravas is a dish that you can only love. And don't worry, you don't have to give up on your healthy diet for this. It's crispy fluffy air fried goodness!
What is Patatas Bravas?
This tapas dish is a favorite in Spain and is usually served at bars with drinks as it's shareable and delicious. Patatas means potatoes and bravas is translated as fierce which is a reference to the spicy sauce, also known as salsa brave which is served with fried potatoes. This savory dish is a classic one in Spain.
Patatas bravas are fried potatoes that are fiercely textured, and fiercely flavored. The kick from the spicy sauce with the super crispy potatoes on the exterior and a soft creamy interior is a perfect snack to binge on.
This Patatas Bravas recipe uses air-fried potatoes instead of deep frying them in the oil, which makes them both easier, quicker, and healthier!

Everything about the dish is so tempting. The golden crispy potatoes or patatas with the flavorful spicy bravas sauce that you will want to have with everything. This is your quicker and healthier Spanish Patatas Bravas recipe!
2 large potatoes
2 tbsp olive oil
1 cup chopped onion
2 cups chopped tomatoes
4 minced garlic cloves
1 tsp red chilies
1 tsp paprika
1 tsp black pepper powder
Salt to taste
For the Air-Fried Potatoes-
Cut the potatoes into chunks and stack them in salted water for 20 minutes. Drain the water, to this add 1 tbsp of olive oil, black pepper, and salt as per taste. Mix them all.
Preheat the air fryer to 180 degrees Celsius. Place the potato mix over the basket without overcrowding.
It will take approx 15 to 20 minutes to cook the potatoes. Keep tossing them after every 5 minutes for them to be crispy from all sides.
Your healthy Spanish Air-Fried Potatoes are ready, remove them from the air fryer into a plate.
For the Spicy Sauce-
Heat a tbsp of olive oil in a pot. Fry the chopped onions and minced garlic, and saute them for 2 to 3 minutes until the raw smell disappears.
Add the red chilies and the paprika powder and cook for another minute. Add the chopped tomatoes and let them cook until the tomatoes are soft and mushy.
At this stage add salt as per taste. Turn off the stove and let it cool down.
Once cooled, blend it in a mixture until you get a smooth paste. You can add a little water if needed.
Your quick and spicy bravas sauce is ready to be served with Patatas Bravas.
To serve -
Place the Patatas Bravas or Spanish Fried Potatoes on the plate. Pour the spicy sauce over it and garnish it with fresh parsley. Enjoy!
Tips and tricks -
You can air fry the potatoes with no oil too for an even healthier version. They will get crispy without oil.
The amount of garlic can be adjusted as per taste.
The number of chilies and the quantity of paprika can be adjusted as well. If you don't want a spicy sauce, you can leave them out altogether.
The potatoes can be seasoned with cumin powder and paprika too instead of just black pepper powder.
Ripe tomatoes will yield a better result and a creamier sauce.
You can serve it together with mayonnaise.
It tastes best if served fresh, but you can store it for 24 hours.
It can be served as an evening or party snack, else add a steak or grilled fish to make it a complete meal.
