If you follow or read any fashion magazine, you would have come across the word 'HAUTE COUTURE'. But what does it mean?

What is Haute Couture?
The term HAUTE in French means 'high' and COUTURE means 'dress-making'. Haute Couture refers to high end fashion that takes days to create, and is for an exclusive set of clientele.
But it isn't just about that; it a highly regulated industry and is regulated by Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode.
The law protects famous design houses like Chanel, Givenchy, Dior etc, as well as the designers who only work for Haute Couture like Schiaparelli and Jean Paul Gaultier.
What's so extra special about it?
Hours and hours of work goes into creating a single garment, which is to serve 0.001% of the target audience (roughly around 4000 clientele). Yeah, you heard me right, it's that miniscule!!!

But it's not just the client base that's that exclusive, but also the number of designers associated with it. Can you guess the number?
Well, it's 14 designers!!!! Yes, only these selected designers can create the designs for Haute Couture.
What's in it for the average customer?
Though the target audience of Haute Couture is very limited, it offers the people to see an unfiltered look of creativity at its best. The designs created are exquisite, mystical, ethereal and just stunning to look at and appreciate.
It's exclusiveness doesn't mean restrictions. Rather, it gives wings to designers to create some of their finest creations!
The picture below is proof of that, Daniel Roseberry (Creative Head at Schiaparelli) is leaps and bounds ahead of current trends! SPEECHLESS!
And the other good part, is that you can purchase tickets to the fashion shows!
I am sure you would have become more fashion smart after reading this! You can show-off to your friends and colleagues the next time you have a fashion discussion. You can thank me later for that! LOL!
